  15. The P-3 Orion evolved from a 1957 Lockheed airliner concept.  In the ASW role, the P-3 uses sonobuoys and a magnetic anomaly detection (MAD) boom to locate and track submerged submarines.  Once located submarines are attacked using Mk-54/Mk-57 depth-bombs or underwing mounted Mk-46 torpedoes.
